Habit
Small tree, 5-7 (12) m tall; 3-8 m wide; loose, round crown to broadly upright; often with several shoots or short stems; 15-20 cm a year
Blossom
Yellowish green racemes, after leaves shoot in May

Hand-size, reverse ovoid, three-lobed; buds in spring red, reddish when shooting, later light green; green underneath; autumn
Fruits
Winged nuts, initially conspicuous red, then light brown

Shallow roots; fine, far-reaching root system, sensitive to compaction and covering with pavement

Shady areas; warm to cool, avoids hot, dry areas; frost hardy; medium to high humidity; needs wind protection, sensitive to air pollution
