Habit
Small to medium-size tree, 7-12 (15) m tall, 4-7 m wide; also a large shrub; loose habit, crown asymmetrical, conical to broadly ovoid; lower branches overhanging, upper ones rising; initially fast-growing, some 40-60 cm, later clearly more slow-growing

Before leaves shoot, decorative red flowers, plentiful; March to April; slight fragrance of honey
Leaves
Three to five-lobed, bronze while leaves shoot, later fresh green to pale green, bluish green underneath; majestic early autumn colours, end of August to September; flame-red, but also only yellow or orange, not all twigs turn at once

Before or while leaves shoot, conspicuous red; decorative

Shallow roots, especially on moist locations; sensitive to pavements and soil compaction
