Characteristics:

Habit

A powerful, elegant large tree, (15) 20-30 m tall, 6-10 (12) m wide; broadly conical when young, becoming increasingly loose to asymmetrical with age; branches horizontal to arching, twigs hanging loosely; medium-growing, 30-50 cm a year

Leaves

Needles in fives; soft, glistening, blue-green needles, 10-20 cm long, loosely hanging; like banners

Fruits

Cones appear from about the 10th year on, initially green-violet, slender, like bananas with pearls of thick resin, light brown when mature, 15-25 cm long, cylindrical

Far-reaching, shallow, moderately deep; sensitive to soil compaction
