Large shrub with many shoots, 3-4 m tall and wide; broadly upright to broadly lilting, almost umbrella-shaped when old; fast-growing
Blossom
Hanging, cylindrical panicles, individual flowers pink-carmine outside, light pink inside, June to July; pungent smell

Early shoots, pointed-ovoid, deep dark green, coarse; persistent, autumn colours pale orange or yellowish
