Characteristics:
Habit
A splendid large tree, 25-35 m, some up to 40 m tall, 12-15 m, even 20 m wide; initially conical, later domed to wide-ovoid; straight leader, branches rising to overhanging; fast-growing, 40-80 cm a year

Inconspicuous, in clusters, brownish violet, before leaves shoot, March to April

Asymmetrical, elliptical, shiny dark green, coarse, conspicuous yellow in autumn

Flat slices, ovoid-round, winged nuts before leaves shoot, initially light green, hugh quantity, brown from May on
Roots
Deep with shallow spreading lateral roots, forming adventitious roots easily and forming runners up to 10 m from stem; not sensitive to covering, flooding and mechanical injury; lifts pavements
