Characteristics:

Habit

A mat-like semi-shrub, 0.2-0.3 m tall to 0.5 m wide; shoots thin, extended, taking root on contact with the ground; slow-growing

Blossom

Purple-blue, first flowers at the end of April to May, then second blossoms into September

Evergreen, small-elliptical, shiny black green

Sun to shade; growing luxuriously in favourable areas, tolerates heat; likes warmth, usually frost hardy; only tolerant of drought once established, resistant to urban pollution

Soil

Fresh to moist; not demanding; in any nutritious soil

Note

Very sensitive to compacted soil, sensitive to walking. Where used as a groundcover fallen leaves tend to disappear underneath the foliage of Vinca, so do not generally need clearing.
